Andhra's New Capital Region
Vijayawada sits at the heart of Andhra Pradesh's new capital region Amaravati. With strong IT growth and government investment, it's becoming a key tech destination.
Vijayawada-Amaravati's tech story began in earnest with the 2014 state reorganization when Amaravati was designated as the new capital. Pi Datacenters launched India's first Tier IV data center in 2017, establishing tech credibility. The arrival of SRM AP (2017) and VIT-AP (2017) created a university corridor. AP Innovation Policy evolved through multiple versions (now 4.0). The Quantum Valley announcement (2025) - India's first quantum computing hub with IBM, TCS, L&T - marks a new chapter. Today, the region aspires to be India's deep tech capital.

Vijayawada-Amaravati represents India's most ambitious tier-2 city tech transformation, backed by state capital status and substantial government investment. The AP Innovation & Startup Policy 4.0 (2024-29) targets 20,000 startups, 10 unicorns, and 5 lakh jobs - among the most aggressive startup targets in India.
The infrastructure bet is extraordinary. India's first Quantum Valley is being established across 50 acres with IBM deploying its 156-qubit Quantum System Two - "India's most powerful quantum computer" - by January 2026. TCS will deliver quantum-integrated industry applications while L&T executes infrastructure development. This positions Amaravati alongside global quantum hubs.
Pi Datacenters established credibility early. Founded by Intel veteran Kalyan Muppaneni, Pi Amaravati became India's first Uptime Institute Tier IV certified data center in 2017, with capacity for 5,000 racks and 2,000 jobs. It's now Asia's largest Tier IV facility. Eruvaka Technologies proved exit potential when Nutreco acquired the Vijayawada-based aquaculture IoT company for $40-50M.
The university ecosystem is strong and growing. KL University ranks #22 in NIRF Universities with the highest package at βΉ75 LPA. SRM AP's partnership with Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science brings world-class AI/ML curriculum. VIT-AP and NIT Andhra Pradesh add depth to the talent pipeline.
The Ratan Tata Innovation Hub (RTIH), inaugurated August 2025, operates on a hub-and-spoke model with the 50,000 sq ft central hub in Mangalagiri and satellite centers across AP. Current stats: 6,658 startups statewide, 2,400 DPIIT-registered, with 27% in IT and notably half led by women founders.
