City of Temples Tech Hub
Jammu is J&K's winter capital, home to IIT Jammu and gateway to Vaishno Devi pilgrimage.
IIT Jammu (2016) and IIM Jammu (2016) transformed education landscape. JKEDI and startup policy accelerated entrepreneurship.
One of India's holiest shrines
Historic Dogra royal palace
North India's largest temple complex
Premier tech institute
Jammu's tech ecosystem represents one of India's most dramatic transformations: from a primarily pilgrimage-focused city to a serious education and startup hub within a decade. IIT Jammu (established 2016) and IIM Jammu (2016) provided the institutional foundation, while aggressive government support accelerated startup growth.
IIT Jammu's NIRF #56 ranking—higher than 4 other IITs in 2025—demonstrates rapid quality growth. The Rs 53 LPA highest package with Microsoft, Qualcomm, Nvidia, Samsung, and Adobe recruiting reflects industry confidence. The 100% Chemical Engineering placement and 89% CSE placement indicate strong outcomes across branches.
The J&K Startup Policy 2024-27 targets 2,000 startups by 2027, backed by Rs 50 crore annual allocation. From just 300 DPIIT-recognized startups in 2020, J&K now has 1,000+—a 3x growth in five years. The DPIIT-JKEDI MoU (January 2025) strengthened national integration of the local ecosystem. Notably, 254 women-led startups demonstrate inclusive entrepreneurship.
For founders, Jammu offers: IIT/IIM-quality talent, government funding through JKEDI, defence sector proximity (border location creates unique opportunities), growing tech infrastructure, and 45% lower costs than Delhi. Defence tech, pilgrimage tech (Vaishno Devi draws 8 million visitors annually), and cross-border trade solutions have natural advantages here.
