AI Ecosystem in Indore

Indore has emerged as Central India's undisputed startup capital, distinguished by a bootstrapping culture unlike any other Indian tech hub. The city hosts 116 high-tech startups (19 funded) and 17 AI companies that have collectively raised $5.06M. Most startups here began as services companies, grew profitable, then pivoted to products—a model that produces capital-efficient, sustainable businesses.

The ecosystem's defining story is Vinay Singhal's WittyFeed journey. Founded in 2014 from Indore, the viral content platform reached 120 million monthly visitors and Rs 40 crore in annual revenue, becoming the world's second-largest viral content site. When Facebook pulled their pages in 2018 (plunging the company from Rs 5 crore cash to Rs 5 crore debt), Singhal pivoted to STAGE—India's first dialect-focused OTT platform. Today STAGE has 4.4 million paying households, Rs 180 crore ARR, and a Rs 600 crore valuation after a $12.5M Series B in 2025. The resilience is quintessentially Indore.

The B2B ecosystem is equally impressive. ShopKirana raised $59.2M serving 50 million customers through 30 cities before being acquired by Udaan for $88.5M in 2025. Appointy has operated as a profitable bootstrapped SaaS since 2008, serving 100,000+ businesses globally. SuperSourcing (formerly EngineerBabu) is trusted by 4,000+ startups for remote engineering talent.

Infrastructure is maturing rapidly. Infosys' 130-acre campus on Super Corridor employs 2,000+ professionals, with LTI Mindtree's Rs 870 crore campus adding 10,000+ planned jobs. Software exports from SEZs surged 27% to Rs 3,782 crore in FY24. Two new IT parks on Khandwa Road and Pardesipura are planned for December 2025, plus a Rs 1,500 crore, 22-storey startup-cum-IT park on Super Corridor.

IIT Indore's ACE Foundation anchors the deep tech ecosystem—selected as a Startup India Seed Fund Scheme incubator, with MoUs with AIC STPINEXT and Kotak Mahindra Bank. Prof. Chandresh Kumar Maurya's AI Lab publishes at SPECOM and ICNLSP, while the MeitY-funded AgriHub focuses on agricultural AI. For founders seeking 23% lower costs than Bangalore, India's cleanest city status, and a proven bootstrap-to-scale playbook, Indore delivers.
